Fugawi iMap Version 2.4 and now...Germany Topos!

Fugawi iMap version 2.4.00 has been approved by Apple and is now available as a free update for Fugawi iMap:USA & Canada Topo Maps, and Fugawi iMap:Sweden (all regions) App users.

We are also pleased to announce that Fugawi iMap: Germany is now available which includes 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and 1:200,000 scale topo maps for all of Germany from the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie).

Fugawi iMap now works on iPad (in iPhone pixel doubling mode).

Also, we are only a day or two away from releasing iMap Ver. 3.0.00 which will include native support for iPad. Again, this will be a free update for users of all Fugawi iMap editions.

We are pleased to announce that Version 2.2 of Fugawi iMap has now been submitted to Apple. Expect to see it appear as a free update on your iPhone in the next few days.

Version 2.2 incorporates:

==> Added Ability to Delete Topo Map Cache...
Use Settings|Map Cache to delete all map tiles in cache. Also, view memory size of map cache, total number of tiles in cache and total free memory.

==> Added Create Waypoint at Current Location to Google Maps View
Double tap on the position icon on the Google Maps view to quickly create a waypoint at your current location. This feature also works in the topo map view.

==> Double tap on Map Now Zooms Map In
Double tap anywhere on the map (except the current location icon) to zoom the map in (Google Maps and topo views).

==> Bug Fixes
- Google Map view now auto-centers on current location when the location icon moves to the edge of the map.
- Fixed issue where changing metric to imperial units in settings was not immediately reflected on the My Location forms.
- Fixed issue where turning "Show Location" off was not immediately reflected on the My Location forms.

We are in the final testing phase of Version 2 of iMap. We are very excited to bring support for Google™ Maps to iMap. Soon you will be able to use Fugawi iMap anywhere in the world, with Google satellite and street maps.

Swap between the topo map and Google Maps view with a single tap. Also, now you can create, view and edit waypoints and photo waypoints on either the included topo map or Google satellite maps. Choose between street map, satellite map or hybrid (street + satellite) view.

We expect to release Version 2 of Fugawi iMap before the end of next week. Stay tuned...

Dual GPS Cradle for iPod touch

We are pleased to announce that the Fugawi iMap Topo app has been tested with the soon to be released GPS Cradle from Dual, and it works perfectly!

This Cradle not only enables GPS capability on the iPod touch (for use with your Fugawi iMap app), but also includes a fully-featured turn-by-turn navigation solution, complete with free navigation software and a windshield mount for in-car use.

Version 1.2. incorporates:

==> Added Download All Scales...
You can now download all maps at all scales within 1, 5 or 10 km (or miles) of the screen center. Downloaded maps are saved to an auto-managed memory in the iPhone for fast retrieval on subsequent views and for use when outside of 3G, Edge or Wi-Fi internet coverage. Access Download All Scales by tapping on the Scale Bar on the bottom center of the map.

==> Improved Scale Bars...
Scale Bars are now easier to read and can now be changed from Imperial to Metric from Settings|Units.

==> Export Waypoints Enhanced...
All waypoints may now be exported to your X-Traverse.com account as any of GPX, KML or KMZ format. (Previously, only GPX format export was permitted.)

==> Remember Last Location and Last Map
When iMap is started and no position information is available, the App will start by loading the map for the last known location.

==> Bug Fixes...
- Fixed issues with iPod touch when no GPS signal present.
- Fixed issue on Canada Map where the extreme eastern portion of Newfoundland was unavailable.

Send any waypoint or photo waypoint to your Facebook account. The waypoint and associated photo will appear in your Facebook account on an interactive map to share with your friends.

==> Added Trash Can Icon...
Trash Can added to waypoint details to allow for deletion of a waypoint.

Icon modified so radiating rings stop after 10 seconds.

Feature Request: Auto Download of Charts

We have had several requests for an ability to automatically download a region of mapping into the onboard cache of Fugawi iMap topo app for iPhone, without having to actually browse the areas.

Here is a copy of such a post from another thread:

"Will there be possible in a future version of the app to download parts of or entire maps (with all zoom levels) to have them available offline? I am aware of the current functionality of caching the maps..."

One option is for the App to be enhanced to let you select a centre point (say a waypoint) and then prompt you to auto download and cache all scales within a certain distance of this point.

We invite our users to comment on how they would like to see this implemented.

Did you know? The Power of Waypoints!

1. Editing Waypoints.
Fugawi iMap has a very simple way of creating and editing waypoints. Simply tap and hold anywhere on the map to create a waypoint. Tap the "+" to create a waypoint. Tap the "i” to edit the waypoint symbol, description, or precise location. Drag the waypoint tool crosshairs over an existing waypoint to delete it with the "-", or to drag the waypoint to a new location.

2. Transferring Waypoints.
You can export your waypoints simply by creating a free X-Traverse account for use with your Fugawi iMap app. From within the iMap app, select Settings|X-Traverse Account|Create X-Traverse Account. Now you can send waypoints to your x-traverse online account using My Library|X-Traverse exchange. Waypoints are sent as a GPX file. Log in to www.x-traverse.com to download the GPX file for use in any other program. You can also upload GPX files using the same procedure.

3. Photo Waypoints.
New to version 1.2 and later, Fugawi iMap now allows you to easily snap a photo waypoint using the iPhone camera or by selecting an existing photo from your photo library. Export all waypoints (and included photos) as a KMZ file for use in Google Earth or other KMZ supporting software. Or...with one simple tap, send your photo waypoint to your Facebook account where it will be posted on an interactive map to share with your friends. Click here for more details.

4. Using Fugawi PC Software.
Both Fugawi Global Navigator and Fugawi Marine ENC software can be used to plot waypoints on your PC for transfer to Fugawi iMap on your iPhone. Best of all Fugawi software comes with a free 1-year subscription to either USA or Canada topo maps, so you can use the exact same mapping on your PC to plan your outdoor adventure, then upload the waypoints to your iPhone.

Known Errror with X-Traverse Account Creation SOLVED

Fugawi iMap for iPhone upcoming release

We are pleased to announce that the first Fugawi App for iPhone has now been submitted to Apple. We are waiting for the approval process. Once approved, we will be posting lots about the product, what it does (and what it doesn't do - yet), what we will be working on, and more.

We've set up this blog so you can tell us which features you’d like to see and in what sort of priority you’d like to see them added.

Spoiler Alert! The app name is “Fugawi iMap” and the initial release will include complete topographic map coverage of all Canadian Provinces and and the U.S.A! More soon...
