We have had several requests for an ability to automatically download a region of mapping into the onboard cache of Fugawi iMap topo app for iPhone, without having to actually browse the areas.
Here is a copy of such a post from another thread:
"Will there be possible in a future version of the app to download parts of or entire maps (with all zoom levels) to have them available offline? I am aware of the current functionality of caching the maps..."
One option is for the App to be enhanced to let you select a centre point (say a waypoint) and then prompt you to auto download and cache all scales within a certain distance of this point.
We invite our users to comment on how they would like to see this implemented.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThis sound like a good idea! Another option could be to select an area (square) on the map and auto download and cache all scales within that selected area.
Thanks for the effort!
Rickard
There is plenty of free space on the built in memory. Why can't we just download the whole region (in this case some of sweden regions) and save all the zoom-level? It can't be that big? In Sweden we have poor connection to 3G or gprs out in the woods so if you cant save a bigger area on the built in memory, the fugawi isnt an option for me.
ReplyDeleteWhy not an option to download the whole area, for example all of Sweden on the phone? There is´t exactly a lack of memory capacity.
ReplyDeleteBoth Navigon and Tomtom does this without a problem. I will definitively buy this when the ability to download whole maps on the device is in place. /David
Good ideas above. It would be terrific if you could implement something like that. The option of downloading, say, a 50x50 mile area centered on your current position could also be neat.
ReplyDeleteDownloading the whole area would be great!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for such a functionnality since I bought my iPhone, some weeks ago. Two missing functionnalities are :
ReplyDelete- "download" maps or regions for offline use later (not all mountains are gsm covered in Switzerland !)
- to be able to use my own maps (for example scanned and then calibrated)
Hello Fugawi, I agree with David and I will by this app when you include the option to download the whole map (in my case, Sweden) to the phone.
ReplyDeleteYes, please.
ReplyDeleteI had the impression that this feature was already avaliable when I bought the app :-/
I would like to see the option to download the complete map I bought once and for all.
With 32Gb on my iPhone I can't see a memory issue.
Update: We are working on the feature to allow "pre-downloading" of maps so you don't have to actually browse a map in order to get it into the cache. It will be available shortly as a free update. In the mean time, the cache function has been improved in 1.1.003.
ReplyDeleteThe maps must be completely downloaded to the iPhone when the app is installed! If not the app is useless! And the app must work properly even without any communication.
